Before major streaming platforms disabled screenshotting, I often captured images while watching movies in my free time. I did this purely for fun. Any time I was struck by a composition or an element of production design on screen, I would pause the film, grab the image and save it.

Eventually, I created an Instagram account to share the stills I had saved. Many accounts like this already exist, but few of them dive deeper into the films they portray.

My approach was to share exactly nine images from each film, aligning to Instagram’s grid. With each post, I shared compelling quotes and bits of information from people involved in the film (directors, actors, designers), as well as writers and critics. I wanted to share just enough to pique interest in each film. I also highlighted contrasting perspectives, for example — how each film was perceived at the time of release versus now.
